FPL: What if these are 5 opportunities you can’t miss?
Selection of high-upside picks
We’re still in that phase of the season when picking differentials is like using a towel instead of toilet paper. Sure, it might do the job—but do you really need to be that different? Ultimately, you’ll end up with more mess to clean. Stick to basics until you have a proper reason to be creative; that’s all I’m saying.
On the other hand, you should constantly look for opportunities to gain an edge over the field. There’s no better feeling than being one step ahead and reaping the rewards.
These won’t be super original picks no one considers, but you might gain significant medium-term EV (expected value) by choosing them. As usual, I’ll try to throw some useful and contextualised data along the way.
Also, this will be a Spurs-heavy.
Dominic Solanke
FPL 101 commands: You must always look for players with a substantial goal threat. Dominic Solanke offers the highest—literally. He ranks first for xG per 90 minutes of play this season.
Sure, it’s just about 400 minutes of play, during which he faced Leicester, Manchester United and Brentford (who are surprisingly poor at the moment). Still, we also have a large sample size of minutes from the previous season and almost 10,000 minutes across the last six.
There's no arguing that he’s a player with a fantastic movement in the box.
That he fits the system.
And that he enters his peak years.
Big Dom is going to score goals. From the fantasy point of view, £7.6m is a delightful price tag, fixtures are more than fine, and at the time of writing this, he’s owned by only 9.9% of managers. Another thing I like is related to Tottenham as such.
Most of you know that Spurs can’t defend set pieces. Saka and Gabriel could tell you a thing or two. However, no other team has created higher xG from set-pieces this season. Solanke is one of the most frequent targets, further boosting his appeal.
So, is there someone with whom he can form a similar partnership like Arsenal’s duo? Well, yes and no.
